Forklift Tank Safety
One of the most popular kinds of forklifts on the market is a propane-powered model. The propane is used to fuel these vehicles and it has some properties that need to be considered when working with the fuel tank. It is important that Personal Protective Equipment or PPE is worn at all times to be safe.

PPE or Personal Protective Equipment
Propane gas is very cold. Very cold in fact that contact to your skin could cause serious burns to happen. When you are exchanging the propane tank or re-fueling, be certain to wear thick gloves and a full face shield or goggles. PPE is a requirement to be used on site in order to keep the driver as safe as possible. Personal Protective Equipment or PPE is a standard workplace requirement for the majority of businesses utilizing this equipment and if the operator does not have the right things on, such as a hardhat, safety goggles, steel-toe boots and all that than she or he would be prohibited from utilizing the equipment.

Inspect the Valve
Prior to connecting the fuel line in the process of exchanging the tank, make sure that the new tanks valve is turned off. This is extremely vital because when you are inserting the fuel line into an open valve, you would release the propane gas. This condition could result in a potentially dangerous condition.

Fire Extinguisher
One more vital safety measure to have implemented is to have a fire extinguisher nearby when fuel is being added or when the tank is being changed. Most businesses have fire extinguishers situated close to the refueling station. It is better to have one nearby and not need it, than to need one and not have one nearby. Nearly all safety rules need this is set up on site too.

Secure the Tank
The majority of propane tanks have either a strap or a restraining device to secure the tank to the equipment. Be sure that this device is properly functioning and correctly utilized so that you could prevent the tank from falling or shifting, since this can also lead to a dangerous condition.
