Narrow aisle forklifts
Narrow aisle forklifts are normally used within warehousing applications. These kinds of forklifts are essential machines in the industry since their small size and extreme maneuverability allow warehouses to use space to maximum storing capacity. They could easily negotiate aisles as narrow as 1.8 meters wide, whereas typical lift trucks need at least 3.4 meters of aisle width.
This particular type of forklift is sub-categorized as "narrow aisle forklifts" and "very narrow aisle forklifts". The first need 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, whereas the second can function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The narrow aisle forklift design includes forks positioned at right angles to the truck body. The trucks do not have to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This design feature is the key to their suitability for tight spaces.
Some very narrow aisle forklifts come with wire or optical guidance systems which ensure the forklift moves in a straight line down the aisle, that leaves the operator free to concentrate on load picking and placement.
The cushion tires which come with these kinds of lifts are made of solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on concrete floors and paved, smooth surfaces. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors which is best used in indoor places. Propane-powered versions are available also.
