Lift trucks are important pieces of equipment used commonly in business, specially within warehouses, distribution centers, storage handling and industrial facilities. A lift truck is constructed of hundreds of components, like the cab, the carriage, the power source, the wheels and the engine. Forklifts usually have a range of attachments as well. The following are some of the most essential parts of a lift truck.

Forklift Engine - the forklift truck is made with a power source at the back of the machine. Various types of lift trucks have different types of engine that need varying power sources. Like for instance, a forklift with an internal combustion engine could have any of the following as its source of power: gasoline, diesel, CNG gas or LP gas. Electric motor lift trucks receive their power from fuel cells or a battery.

Truck Frame - The frame of the truck is the base of the lift truck and the most essential of all the forklift components. This forms the equipment's core. All other parts of a lift truck are connected to the base, including the axles, mast, wheels counterweight and overhead guard. Fuel and hydraulic fluid tanks can also be part of the frame assembly.

Counterweight Forklift Components - the counterweight is what enables the equipment to be balanced while lifting heavy loads. This component is made of heavy cast iron and is attached to the backend of the forklift truck. The counterbalance balances the frame of the truck to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. In an electric lift truck, the heavy lead-acid battery offers balance and may function as part of the counterweight.

The Cab Area - The cab is also known as the operator compartment. Forklifts would sometimes have closed cabs while others would be open to the air. There are really a lot of components located within the cab for operating the forks. The cab has such essential parts like the switches, levers, operator controls, steering wheel, seats and pedals. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
