A stock picker, also known as an order picker is a machine that is quite like a forklift. It enables the driver to utilize forks to raise a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking certain items, and this feature is something the lift truck does not provide. Typically, order pickers are powered by electricity. These machines are mostly used in a warehouse environment. Usually they are utilized for moving pallets and completing certain jobs in the stocking and shelving department.
The order picker operator sits up on a platform where they operate the controls. These controls help to direct the machinery forward, backward or steer it from side to side. As soon as the operator has positioned the unit in place the tines can be raised to the required level which makes it really convenient for the operator. Like for example, if the materials required, are situated on a shelf which the operator could not reach, then whole platform is capable of being lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight located at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
The platform is lowered back to its original position after the order has been picked. The order picker is then driven or directed to its next location. With most models, it is possible to move the order picker whilst the platform is raised, however, several businesses may have procedures and policies in place preventing such maneuvers in the name of safety. An order picker can also put pallets on a shelf. Forklifts and stackers can be utilized to complete these specific tasks at some companies instead.
